The 6 Days Marangu Route Kilimanjaro Trek is one of the most popular routes to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, offering a gradual ascent through diverse landscapes, from lush rainforest to alpine desert and the icy summit of Uhuru Peak. Known as the "Coca-Cola Route," Marangu is the only Kilimanjaro route with comfortable mountain huts for overnight stays, making it a great choice for trekkers seeking a more sheltered climbing experience. This itinerary includes an extra acclimatization day at Horombo Hut, increasing your chances of successful summit achievement while allowing your body to adjust to the altitude.
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be welcomed by our representative and transferred to your hotel in Moshi. You will meet your mountain guide for a briefing, equipment check, and preparation for your Kilimanjaro adventure.
Accomodation
Distance: 8 km | Hiking Time: 4–5 hours
After breakfast, drive to Marangu Gate where registration takes
place before beginning your trek. The trail starts through the
beautiful rainforest zone, where you may spot monkeys and enjoy the
rich vegetation. The hike continues to Mandara Hut, your first
overnight stop.
Distance: 12 km | Hiking Time: 6–8 hours
After breakfast, continue through the rainforest into the heath and
moorland zone. You will enjoy spectacular views of Mount Kilimanjaro
and the surrounding landscapes as you approach Horombo Hut, located
below the summit of Kibo.
Elevation: 3,720m
Today is dedicated to acclimatization. You will take a short hike
towards Mawenzi Peak while returning to Horombo Hut for overnight
rest. This extra day helps your body adapt to higher altitude and
improves your chances of reaching the summit.
Distance: 9 km | Hiking Time: 5–7 hours
The trek continues across the alpine desert known as the Saddle,
located between Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. The landscape becomes more
rugged as you approach Kibo Hut, where you will rest and prepare for
the final summit attempt.
Distance: 22 km | Hiking Time: 12–15 hours
You will begin the summit attempt around midnight. The challenging
climb takes you through the volcanic scree to Gilman's Point
(5,681m), followed by the final walk along the crater rim to Uhuru
Peak, the highest point in Africa.
After celebrating your achievement and taking photos at the summit,
descend back to Kibo Hut for breakfast before continuing down to
Horombo Hut. Later, descend through the rainforest to Marangu Gate,
where you will receive your summit certificate before transferring
back to Moshi.
