The 7 Days Machame Route is one of the most popular and scenic routes for climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. Known as the “Whiskey Route,” it offers breathtaking landscapes, diverse ecosystems, and excellent acclimatization opportunities. This itinerary allows climbers more time to adjust to the altitude, increasing the chances of reaching the summit successfully. The route approaches Kilimanjaro from the south and passes through lush rainforest, moorland, alpine desert, and the stunning Southern Glaciers before reaching Uhuru Peak (5,895m) — the highest point in Africa.

Distance: 11 km | Hiking Time: 5-7 hours

After breakfast, you will be transferred to Machame Gate for registration and final preparations. The trek begins through the beautiful rainforest zone, where you may spot monkeys and enjoy the rich vegetation of Kilimanjaro. The trail gradually climbs through the forest before reaching Machame Camp, where you will have dinner and overnight rest.

After breakfast, the trail leaves the rainforest and enters the moorland zone. The path becomes steeper as you climb through rocky landscapes with impressive views of Mount Meru and the surrounding plains. You will arrive at Shira Plateau, one of the most beautiful areas on Kilimanjaro, where you will spend the night at Shira Camp.

Distance: 12 km | Hiking Time: 6–8 hours

Today is important for acclimatization as you climb higher before descending to Barranco Camp. The route passes through the spectacular Lava Tower area, offering stunning views of glaciers and volcanic formations. After lunch near Lava Tower, you descend to the beautiful Barranco Valley, surrounded by giant Senecio plants and dramatic mountain scenery.

After breakfast, you begin the famous Barranco Wall climb. Although it looks challenging, the climb is manageable and provides an exciting adventure with incredible views. After crossing valleys and ridges, you reach Karanga Camp for an afternoon of rest and acclimatization.

The trail continues toward Barafu Camp, the final base camp before the summit attempt. You will pass through a rocky landscape with views of Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. After an early dinner, you will rest and prepare for the summit climb during the night.

You begin the summit attempt around midnight. The climb starts with a challenging ascent through glaciers and volcanic terrain toward Stella Point (5,739m), followed by the final walk to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. After celebrating your achievement and taking photos at the summit, you descend to Barafu Camp for a short rest before continuing down to Mweka Camp.
